It's Computer Science Education Week and it’s time for Hour of Code 2024! This year, we want to see students explore, play, and create with computer science—and Hour of Code has plenty of activities to get them started.
Even though there are a lot of computer science jobs that go unfilled, the majority of schools in the US don't teach computer science, only 35% of schools in the nation teach Computer Science classes. Los Nietos Middle School STEAM Academy is one of the few middle schools that teach classes in Computer Science. Our year-long MESA class, taught by Ms. Ramirez, has student participating in Project Lead the Way's - Computer Science for Innovators and makers curriculum. We also have the CYBER SECURITY CLUB that meets on Fridays and competes in the Air Force Association's Cyber Patriot Competition. LNMS STEAM created an award winning Cyber Security Pathway from Middle School to Rio Hondo College that helps student gain the skills they need to head to college and careers in Cyber Security. For a small school we have a lot going on in the STEM fields.
But first, a special Hour of Code message from NASA at the International Space Station!
