Dr. Houlahan Informs Parents of HIV/AIDS on 10/21/11

Dr. Houlahan presented to parents at the Coffee with the Principal. Parents learned about HIV/AIDS prevention education that is mandated by the California Department of Education.

Dr. Houlahan's message centered on sharing that "no one is immune and therefore should learn how to prevent blood on blood-like substance contact." Parents expressed that they learned many facts and felt that they could better answer questions that their student may have about HIV and AIDS prevention.

Student assemblies will be held for both 7th and 8th grade students on November 4th. Parent notification will be sent home with students on October 26th. Students will attend the assembly on HIV/AIDS prevention unless a parent writes a letter and submits it to the office to excuse the student from the presentation. (See sample documents provided in English and Spanish on HIV/AIDS.)

We would like to extend a special thank you to:
*Mrs. Ana Arellano for interpreting at the meeting
*Our LNMS PTC for providing healthy breakfast treats
*Dr. Shaw for participating in the meeting
*Mr. Valencia and Mrs. Alvarado (7th Grade Math/Science Teachers) who learned alongside parents and
*Our parents who attended to demonstrate their support of our partnership with Presbyterian Hospital.

Together we form "A Supportive Learning Community for Continuous Growth."
