19 students and 5 coaches from Los Nietos Middle School ran the ASICS LA Marathon Sunday March 15. LNMS is the only Students Run Los Angeles (SRLA) site east of the 605 Freeway. Our dedicated runners boarded their bus at 4:30 am to head for the starting line at Dodger Stadium. From Dodger Stadium they ran through Chinatown, towards Downtown LA, and with temperatures pushing 90 degrees they headed for Hollywood, then on to Beverly Hills and through the VA facility then finally off towards the finish line in Santa Monica. Anthony Zaragoza was our first finisher crossing the finish line in 4 hours 48 minutes. The months of training with their SRLA coaches and the 6 pre-marathon runs that students participated in were put to the test today. All 19 students- Anthony Zaragoza, Ana Cortez, Julian Lopez, Jonathan Gamino, Maria Zesati, Kenia Bravo, Raylene Cosio, Roxanne Flores, Atziri Alvarado, Adrian Rowell, Edna Baires, Paola Ruiz, Johan Gamino, Julissa Gamino, Jacob Hernandez, Katherine Rodriguez, Frank Alvarez, Ricky Sevillano, and Sebastian Fernandez; 5 coaches William Chavez, Marion Lam, Linda Cojohn, Carlee Moyer, and Erika Rose;and 2 friends Michelle Sanchez, and Christina Fountenot met the goal of crossing the finish line!
