Chapman College was swarmed with middle schoolers from across LA and Orange County on a rainy Saturday 3/10. All had arrived to participate in the annual Chapman University sponsored MESA Day. The students worked in teams and challenged their rival schools in Science, Technology, and Math Events. The events included designing a glider that would land on a target, designing & building a bridge out of Popsicle sticks that could hold the most weight. Engineering a MESA MACHINE that would launch a ball, the prosthetic arm challenge which involved the development of a low cost prosthetic device that is capable of accurately throwing ping-pong balls at a target and MESA Tank involving the creation of a new competition challenge were all part of the experience. After a fun day of completion Los Nietos Middle School emerged victorious in every event. Our Glider team of Maya Garcia & Marianna Becerra was able to land their glider exactly on the target! Our MESA Machine winners were able to launch their ball all the way across the room - congratulations to Jasmine Vazquez & Janeeva Torres!
