LNMS Welcomes its Newest Brave to the Team of Dedicated Professionals at the Middle School
Here is a note from our carefully selected Principal of Los Nietos Middle School, Home of the Mighty Braves! Be sure to greet her and give her a warm welcome to our school community. Principal Brann Zelaya will begin her tenure with us on Monday, September 23, 2013.
-------
I am delighted to have been selected as the Principal of Los Nietos Middle School and anticipate an exciting year ahead as we together strive to foster “A Supportive Learning Community for Continuous Growth” for all students. As I begin as Principal, I am energized and deeply committed to making a positive difference in the lives of our students. I can’t wait to meet all of the students and families as the year progresses. I believe everybody has a story to tell and that is what makes everyone unique. As the principal, I am looking forward to hearing the stories Los Nietos Middle School has to tell! It will be a great way for me to get to know the school culture and what LNMS represents to this community. I am fortunate to be working with such an exceptional group of students, families, and staff members.
I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from UC Santa Barbara, a teaching credential from Cal State, Los Angeles, and a Masters degree in Educational Administration from Cal State, Northridge. Over the last 14 years I have served the students and families of the Lawndale, Hawthorne and Little Lake School Districts as a middle school History and English Teacher, a literacy specialist, instructional coach, and most recently as Assistant Principal for 6 years. Before becoming an educator, I worked at various social service agencies including Rio Hondo Temporary Home, located in Norwalk, serving children and families in need.
My core beliefs as an educational leader are that I am a role model for my students, staff, and community; I believe in demonstrating a love for learning; I believe in providing a safe and nurturing environment where every student should be treated as an individual who deserves excellence in education. I believe that learning is an intrinsic, dynamic, and creative process. I believe in providing middle school students with opportunities and experiences that can shape them as learners and citizens. As an educational leader I am committed to the core values of education and a strong foundation that all students can succeed.
What is in store for us this year? With the adoption of the California Common Core State Standards, come new possibilities for every student. It means we will teach our students to be critical thinkers, collaborative team members, communicators and creative innovators. It also means we will prepare our students to enter high school, college and careers with the 21st century technology skills needed to be competitive and ready to take on the challenges of our new global economy.
I feel honored and privileged to join the Los Nietos Middle School community. I believe teamwork and open communication are very important and know that together we will continue to ensure a positive and productive learning environment for our students. I am excited to help support the students, parents, teachers and community of Los Nietos Middle School and I look forward to meeting and working with each of you in the coming weeks.
Sincerely,
Shanonn Brann Zelaya, Principal
